My home of 18 years, and my constant source of inspiration. I may have left New York City, but it never really left me. Coming back this week reminded me of its incredible diversity and energy, which I’d love to share with you. Here are my picks for eateries, shops, and must-visit places in the Big Apple.

Shop: at Story (a rotating concept store), Reformation (vintage-inspired styles), or Save Khaki United (menswear made in the USA).

See: the Kawakubo exhibit at the Met, lush urban gardens at the High Line, and the best skyline sunset views at the Boom Boom Room.

Eat: Imaginative, delicious donuts at Du’s, vegan tiki-inspired fare at Mother of Pearl, and the best Mexican food on the Lower East Side at Barrio Chino. Splurge on a memorable meal at Japanese speakeasy, Bohemian, located behind a butcher shop in Noho or Dan Barber’s farm-to-table Blue Hill in the village.

Drink: cocktails for a cause at Coup, beers in paper bags at speakeasy The Back Room, and tipples with a side of (off-key) tunes at Baby Grand.

Do: If you’re feeling adventurous, play shuffleboard at Royal Palms, attend Adidas’s cool kids soccer tournament, or celebrate like it’s 1920 at the Jazz Age Lawn party.
