We Are Proud

Love Is Project’s ultimate mission is to spread love and inspiration around the globe. Pride Month is a particularly important time to remember that love is what matters, even in the face of hate. We support the LGBTQ community’s campaign for human rights in Kenya, Indonesia, and the rest of the world.

Persecution Persists: Despite recent inroads, the LGBTQ community faces consistent persecution around the world, including the countries where Love Is Project operates. In Kenya, homosexuality is criminalized and 89% of people that come out are disowned. Indonesia does not recognize same-sex marriage equality, or provide protection to the LGBTQ community against hate crimes.

Past Progress: One important thing to remember: Equality is not a Western notion. Prince Mavendra of India is the world’s first openly gay prince. In 2007, the Nepali Supreme Court awarded transgender protections. In 2010, Argentina became the first Latin American country to legalize marriage equality.

Continue the Fight: Organizations around the globe are uniting the LGTBQ community and allies to campaign for their human rights in the face of legal and social discrimination. It Gets Better, Kaleidoscope Trust, ARC International, and ILGA are just some of the many doing this important work.
