The bracelet that started it all.
In 2014, Chrissie Lam was on a flight to Moscow when she struck up a conversation with two women who had just met on the plane. She asked them what LOVE meant to them. Inspired by their openness, she shared a photo of them wearing the beaded LOVE bracelet she had designed with Maasai women in Ngong Hills, Kenya. Within six months and 50 countries, Love Is Project was born.
Every bracelet is hand-beaded by Maasai women in Ngong Hills, Kenya. Adjustable, waterproof, and entirely unique. Slight color variations are part of the story.
Your purchase directly funds steady wages, school places, and community projects for Maasai women and their families in Kenya.
Features
Made with LOVE
The first LOVE bracelet was made by Abigail Tereno in Ngong Hills, Kenya. Chrissie Lam met Abigail in 2013, and together they created the bracelet that would start everything. Abby worked with a group of mothers who had children with special needs.
Today, Love Is Project works with artisan women across five beading villages in Ngong Hills. Helen, one of those artisans, grew up as the eldest of six children with limited education and manual jobs. Once she started making LOVE bracelets, she went on to earn fifteen times Kenya's minimum wage.
Over three years, the income from LOVE bracelet sales funded secondary school places for 60 students in Ngong Hills and allowed 150 women to invest in income-generating projects together. Your purchase is part of that chain.
