WORLD Teachers Day "To Sir with LOVE"

October 06, 2020 2 min read

Happy Teachers Day to the beloved educators in my life - past and present. I carry the knowledge and courage you shared with me in my heart always. The team and I wanted to take a minute to reflect on this day, and on those very important people who’ve helped shape us into the people we are today.

This day is special for so many reasons, especially in what’s been so far a chaotic 2020. Established in 1966 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this first Monday in October is dedicated to those who dedicate their lives to teaching our young people.

The movie “To Sir with Love,” starring Sidney Poitier was released in 1967 with its theme song performed by Lulu. The U.S. pop chart-topping song’s lyrics are beautifully suited for today, and remind us to respect and show LOVE for teachers everywhere:

But how do you thank someone

Who has taken you from crayons to perfume?

A friend who taught me right from wrong

And weak from strong, that’s a lot to learn.

What, what can I give you in return?

I would write across the sky in letters

That would soar a thousand feet high

“To Sir, with love”

The theme for Teachers Day in 2020 is “Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future.” The role they play is more important than ever.

Traditionally, today would be a day to show appreciation for the teachers in your life with a note or a gift. With virtual learning, many teachers could miss out on some well-deserved recognition.

To celebrate teachers and their perseverance through this challenging time, we’re sending a freeBlack Elastic Cloth Face Mask to 100 teachers across the country*.
